Imposition Appearance Palette
Palette in standard mode
Palette in expert mode
The first two control features Rows and Columns determine the overall imposition layout by setting the number of rows and columns. The Calculate automatically option chooses optimal values to fill the sheet maximally. Auto positions filling is also activated when activating the automatic number calculation. This option cannot be used when working with a booklet imposition and also if the sheet size is calculated automatically (Activating 'Calculate automatically' activates manual sheet size input). If there are many positions on the sheet the automatic calculation can be time-consuming.
You can also select One-sided or Two-sided sheet. If you choose to work with a two-sided sheet, two mirrored sides of the sheet will be made. The following options let you choose imposition type – N-UP, Booklet and Calendar. The Cut & Stack option can be activated for all of these impositions.
Note: Visually, nothing has to change while switching to booklet imposition (if the Auto positions filling is not active), but the option Page order from beginning/end in the Info Palette becomes available, which is necessary to define the scheme of assignment for this imposition type. It is recommended to use Auto positions filling enabled for booklet imposition.
You can read more about these imposition types in the chapter Imposition Types. Red warning will be displayed for a booklet imposition if the number of positions is unsuitable for auto positions filling. If auto filling is disabled the warning will be orange.
The following features are hidden in Auto mode, where they are always enabled:
Auto positions size – Calculates size of positions according to pages for imposition.
Auto positions filling – Fills the sheet with pages from left to right and from top down (can be changed). Automatic filling depends on the number of positions for booklet impositions.
These features are only available in Expert mode (can also be hidden in this mode, button at the top right): With the Cut & Stack option enabled, the Auto cutter option is also available. If this option is not active, the resulting imposition is designed for guillotine cutter and then stacking of blocks on top of each other. When the Auto cutter option is activated, the row (or column) is filled sequentially as the first and then the columns (or rows) are filled by the cut & stack method – the result is then used for continuous cutting of individual sheets by automatic cutter. Whether the rows or columns are filled first can be changed by choosing an alternative fill (you have to select it according to the direction of sheet pass through the cutter). If Auto positions filling is disabled, you have to set manually the number of positions to fill sequentially. There may be buttons next to the Auto positions filling option: "1|2", "Alternative fill" and "1.". The buttons are only visible in Expert mode, the "1|2" button appears only for one-sided sheet. In Auto and Standard mode, the position where the first page is placed is determined automatically, and the fill direction is automatically set. In Expert mode, the filling direction can be changed, the button shows the current filling direction of positions eg or
. In booklet / cross-fold mode, there may be more variants, depending on the number of positions on the sheet and the cross-fold is displayed as
with a letter indicating the current filling variant. The first page position can also be changed using the "1." button. Clicking this button will change the pointer and the position for the first side can be selected. This position must be in a corner of the imposition (top left, top right, bottom left or bottom down), marked in red in the preview for 6 columns and 4 rows
. In booklet imposition types, it is also possible to select the positions next to the corners (for example the second position in the first row etc.; to select these positions it is, of course, necessary to have at least 4 rows or columns) as shown in this picture
. The position of the first page is selected by pointer
. If
is shown, it means that the position is already selected for the first page. By clicking this position again you can activate an Alternative direction of auto positions filling (as well as an Alternative fill button): unlike the basic filling option, where positions are filled in rows first, in alternative direction of filling they are filled in columns first (for booklet/cross-fold mode the filling is somewhat different and depends on the number of rows and columns, it is also possible to change the appearance by rotating the selected position in a suitable direction). Alternative filling also depends on the number of rows and columns – if there is only one row, the alternative filling is the same as the basic filling. Button "1|2" is intended for automatic "Work & Turn" and "Work & Tumble" print in One-sided sheet. This feature can be disabled, but it is always active in booklet mode.
Bind front and back side – Enabling this option makes sure that when placing a page to the front side a page for its back side will be placed accordingly (and vice versa).
Further sheets automatically – This option is usually enabled. When it is turned off only the first sheet of an imposition will be made and the remaining pages will not be imposed.
The last option Crop large pages to positions size is displayed in Expert mode only (in other modes this option acts as active). When this option is enabled (by default), the input PDF is limited to the PDF bleed box and also to the position bleed. This avoids that a page in one position overlaps an adjacent position. That's why the original marks (if they are outside the bleed) are not shown, so they would overlap adjacent positions. Deactivating this option will cause, that all objects in the source PDF will be visible, and they may also overlap adjacent positions. This can be used in special cases to better use the sheet. In the picture, the positions are represented by black boxes; the content of the PDF overlapping the adjacent right position is displayed in blue.
